Surf cinematographer Tim Bonython loves shooting the world’s biggest, most beautiful, and monstrous waves

While the surf world has been focused on Hawaii this winter since huge swells have had Jaws and the North Shore firing on all cylinders, Bonython’s been doing his thing abroad.

He’s been in his sweet spot at Nazaré, shot Australian “secret spots” with Hawaii’s Koa Rothman, and chased “supernatural” waves in exotic places. In his latest release, he chased firing surf to Morocco with an all-star lineup of big wave surfers.

Surfing Visions captioned the edit above:

“So it goes like this. HUGE SWELL is to hit Nazare but the winds are predicted to be gusty onshore. 10 days before I contacted Jerome Sahyoun asking him if a big swell goes to Morocco I am super keen to come down.

“5 days later the swell charts light up with this monster storm. Every good surfer in Nazare was on this mission which ended being one of the best adventures ever! Starting in this edit at the Safi point breaks.”

Like a lot of Bonython’s films, there’s not a lot of dialogue, offering viewers the opportunity to get lost in the surf with music.

The edit has a solid lineup of big wave surfers including Lucas Chumbo, skim boarder Lucas Fink, Jerome Sahyoun and his son, Liam, Axi Muniain, Jose Carlos, Dylan Longbottom, Natxo Gonzalez, Teva Bouchgua, and Garrett McNamara from HBO’s 100 Foot Wave.
