The ground may or may not be white outside of your living room window. However, snowmobile season is getting started in various parts of the Snowbelt with some notable events.

Here’s a rundown of some of the higher profile events that are occurring. If you’re club, association or race circuit has its own happenings coming up, post them in the comments section below. Bring On The Snow!!

Kickoff Racing In Beausejour!

The snowmobile oval racing world kicks off its season this weekend in Beausejour, Manitoba, with the annual Canadian Power Toboggan Championships Season Opener on December 9-10.

The crew at the famed CPTC facility has been making ice for a couple of weeks and has a decent sheet to play with. That said, organizers cancelled the Friday practice sessions to preserve the ice surface for actual race time.

The number of top teams that show up at the annual early season CPTC event has varied over the years based on who has their equipment ready. But now that this event is a points- (and thus, money-) paying event on the USSA ProStar Cup Tour, it’s vital that drivers chasing national titles show up and do well. Expect fast-paced, hard-carving action in a variety of classes – from the top Champ 440 challengers to Juniors, Vintage and more.

Kickoff Fun At Old Forge

Meanwhile, a tidy 25-hour drive east of Beausejour, another town with a very long and impressive history in snowmobiling will kick off the season in the Northeast with its annual event.

We’re talking about the Old Forge Snodeo. This 47th annual event will be December 8-10. The formal event includes a broad list of vendors – from snowmobile dealers to resorts, apparel companies to trailer makers and much more. But in general, the entire area is abuzz on kickoff weekend as people share their love of the winter.

Best yet, there’s actually some snow on the ground in Old Forge right now. It’s not piling up in earnest quite yet, but it’s started and that’s put everybody in a great mood.

Kickoff Festivities In Wahkon

Muggs always draws a crowd for S.N.O.W.Fest for the movies, silent auction, drawings and more, while the vintage show occurs outside.

The snowmobile-loving brothers who own Muggs of Mille Lacs bar and restaurant will once again be hosting the 10th annual S.N.O.W. Fest on Saturday, December 9, in Wahkon, Minnesota.

For the uninitiated, S.N.O.W. in this case stands for “Somewhere North Of Wahkon,” and is hosted by the bar that proudly brags on its menu to serving “the third best chili in town” – even though there’s only one other place in the tiny town that serves chili! So that’s the humor you can expect.

That said, this has turned into a seriously fun event, with a big vintage display, the Wahkon World Premier of several snowmobiling movies, a silent auction, drawings, trivia and much more. Plus money raised at the event supports local snowmobile clubs and trails. And the trails in this area are wonderful.

Kickoff Of Snocross Next Weekend

Just a week further down the road, the Amsoil Championship Snocross season formally kicks off with the Mt. Zion Snocross National. It’s near Ironwood, Michigan, on December 15 and 16.

Race teams have had their vehicles for weeks and have been working out the kinks in drivers and machines at test tracks. Here at we’ll once again be hosting the Fantasy Snowmobile Racing Challenge game, where participants predict the finishing order in the pro class. Give it a shot – it’s free, easy to play and fun.
